APP Resources

Practice makes perfect. iReal Pro offers an easy-to-use tool to help musicians of all levels master their art. It simulates a real-sounding band that can accompany you as you practice. The app also lets you create and collect chord charts of your favorite songs for reference.  Available for $12.99 from the iTunes store at iReal Pro.

Have a virtual band accompany you as you practice
• Choose from 47 different accompaniment styles (Swing, Ballad, Gypsy Jazz, Bluegrass, Country, Rock, Funk, Reggae, Bossa Nova, Latin,...)
• Personalize each style with a variety of sounds including piano, fender rhodes, acoustic and electric guitars, acoustic and electric basses, drums, vibraphone, organ, and more.

The Transcribe! application is an assistant for people who want to work out a piece of music from a recording, in order to write it out, or play it themselves, or both. It doesn't do the transcribing for you, but it is essentially a specialised player program which is optimised for the purpose of transcription. It has many transcription-specific features not found on conventional music players.

2017 Summer Jazz Camp Scholarships are available for Chicagoland area high school students through the Bill May Jazz Education Fund, in association with the Jazz Community Big Band.

Scholarship Applications, along with complete scholarship information are available on our website through our "Scholarship" tab.  Here is the link for your convenience.

Applications must be postmarked by April 1, so please share this information promptly with those promising young jazz musicians you feel meet the criteria listed below.

Criteria for Potential Scholarship Recipients of the

Bill May Jazz Education Fund

Consideration will be limited to high school sophomores and juniors, in good academic standing, who are participating in their school's jazz program. (In rare circumstances, outstanding freshman who meet all other criteria may also be considered.) The focus on "mid" classmen is to help ensure that the benefits to the student of attending jazz camp can be expanded upon through continued participation in their high school's jazz program.

Additional requirements for consideration are:

·   A letter of recommendation by the student's jazz band instructor or private music teacher, with focus on the student's leadership skills

·   Student's year in high school

·   Student's current GPA

·   Student's instrument

·   An essay by the student, briefly explaining why they should be considered for the scholarship, what they hope to gain from the summer jazz camp experience, and how they plan to share their experience with fellow students the following year

·   An audition may also be required, to be determined on an as-needed basis

The mission of Jazz Community is to uphold its commitment to founder Bill May's original vision of education and entertainment through the uniquely American language of Jazz.  If you'd like further information, that can be found on our website through our "History" tab.

Thank you for helping to keep Jazz alive!
